In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man in Mumbai invited his wife’s suspected lover to their home for a drinking session before brutally attacking him and slitting his throat in front of her, police said.
According to officials, the incident took place on Wednesday when the accused, identified as Bhimraj Omprakash Sharma, invited Vikas Ashok Bhusare to his home. Sharma allegedly suspected Bhusare of having an affair with his wife.
Police said Sharma, his wife and Bhusare had consumed alcohol together before tensions escalated during the gathering. Sharma allegedly warned Bhusare to stay away from his wife, police added.
At one point during the interaction, the accused had reportedly told Bhusare in a cautionary tone, “Why do you keep coming to my house? Don’t come again.”
Police said Sharma’s anger suddenly escalated after this, following which he picked up a knife and began attacking Bhusare repeatedly until he died on the spot.
Following the incident, Sharma fled but was tracked down and arrested after a three-hour search operation, police said.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that he suspected his wife’s alleged affair with Bhusare.
Officials added that Bhusare had earlier been accused of harassing Sharma’s wife and had continued meeting her despite warnings.
Police have registered a murder case and produced the accused before a court, where he has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
