The announcement comes amid nationwide concern after allegations of paper leak led to the cancellation of one of India’s largest medical entrance exams.

STUDENTS TO GET EXAM CITY CHOICE

Pradhan said candidates appearing for the NEET UG re-exam will be allowed to choose their preferred exam city.

This step is aimed at reducing travel burden and making the process smoother for lakhs of students who will be reappearing after the cancellation.

ADMIT CARDS BY JUNE 14

The minister confirmed that new NEET UG re-exam admit cards will be released by June 14, 2026 on the official NTA website.

Students will be able to download their hall tickets using their existing application credentials.

NEET UG CANCELLED LIVE UPDATES

NO FRESH REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Officials clarified that students will not need to register again for the exam.

All existing data, including candidature details and exam centres from the earlier cycle, will remain valid.

No additional fee will be charged for the re-exam.

NEET CBT SHIFT FROM NEXT YEAR

As per Dharmednra Pradhan, NEET is set to move to a computer-based test (CBT) format from next year. The shift will replace the long-standing pen-and-paper system with a fully digital exam, aligning NEET with other major competitive tests already using CBT mode.

Officials said the change aims to improve exam security, reduce paper leak risks, and ensure smoother conduct of the test. The move will directly impact lakhs of aspirants seeking admission to MBBS, BDS and allied medical courses, requiring them to adapt to digital testing methods.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER PAPER LEAK ALLEGATIONS

The announcement follows the government’s decision to order a CBI probe into the alleged NEET UG paper leak, with multiple agencies already investigating possible leak routes.

Initial inputs suggest suspected issues linked to WhatsApp circulation, printing stage handling, and internal vulnerabilities in the exam chain.

Officials said over 22 lakh students had appeared for NEET UG 2026 before the exam was cancelled. The re-exam is now being planned urgently to minimise disruption to the medical admission calendar.

The education ministry stated that the decision to re-conduct the exam was taken to protect the integrity of the national testing system. While acknowledging inconvenience to students, officials said the move was necessary to ensure fairness and restore confidence in competitive examinations.
