Baramulla is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and it serves as both an assembly and a parliamentary constituency. The administrative headquarters of Baramulla district is located in the town of Baramulla, which lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, downstream from Jammu and Kashmirs summer capital, Srinagar.

Baramulla is a significant hub for trade and education in northern Kashmir. One of the notable attractions in the area is the Eco Park, situated like an island in the middle of the Jhelum River on the road from Baramulla town to Uri. The park is accessible via a wooden bridge and has been modernly developed by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation.

Baramulla is the fourth most populous city in Jammu and Kashmir. The old part of the city is known as Shehar-e-Khas, while the new part is referred to as Greater Baramulla. According to the 201 Census, the population of Baramulla was 71,434, consisting of 38,677 males (54%) and 32,757 females (46%). The religious composition of the city is predominantly Islamic (85.28%), followed by Sikhism (8.69%), Hinduism (5.57%), Christianity (0.29%), and Buddhism (0.03%).

In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Javid Hassan Beigh of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) won the Baramulla seat with a margin of 14,418 votes.
