Hiranagar Assembly Constituency

Hiranagar is a town and a notified area committee located in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. It serves as a tehsil headquarters and is also one of the 90 assembly constituencies in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Additionally, Hiranagar is part of the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency.

The town is named after Raja Hira Singh, the son of Raja Dhyan Singh and the nephew of Raja Gulab Singh, both prominent figures in the regions history.

As per the 2011 Indian Census, the total population of the Hiranagar subdivision is 8,294. The gender distribution is as follows: 4,526 males and 3,768 females.

Hiranagar is well-connected to major cities such as Jammu, Srinagar, and New Delhi via the Srinagar-Kanyakumari Highway (NH-44). The town also has a railway station, providing further connectivity to other rail-linked cities.

In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, the Hiranagar assembly seat was won by Kuldeep Raj of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
