Pampore Assembly Constituency

Pampore Assembly Constituency is one of the 90 constituencies in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. It is also a part of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Pampore is a historical town located on the eastern bank of the Jhelum River, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Historically known as Padmapura, Pampore is situated approximately 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) from Lal Chowk, the center of Srinagar city. The town is primarily renowned for its saffron cultivation, accounting for 90% of Indias saffron crop. However, by 2023, the production has seen a decline due to high temperatures and irregular rainfall.

According to the 2011 Census, the population of Pampore Tehsil was 60,613. The gender distribution was 52% male and 48% female. The average literacy rate in Pampore stands at 59%, with male literacy at 69% and female literacy at 49%.

In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, the Pampore seat was won by Zahoor Ahmad Mir of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP), who secured victory with 16,239 votes.
