The total area of Ranchi district is 5,097 square kilometers. According to the 2011 census, the population of Ranchi district is 2,914,253, with a literacy rate of 77.13%. The linguistic demographics indicate that 30.23% of the population speaks Sadri, while 28.08% speaks Hindi.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate C. P. Singh won the seat with 79,646 votes, defeating Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Mahua Maji, who received 73,742 votes. An independent candidate, Pawan Kumar Sharma, secured 6,479 votes. In the 2014 assembly elections, C. P. Singh of the BJP also emerged victorious with 95,760 votes, while Mahua Maji of JMM received 36,897 votes, and Congress candidate Surendra Singh garnered 7,935 votes.
