In the 2019 assembly elections, Mathura Prasad Mahto from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) emerged victorious, securing 72,552 votes. He was followed by Vikram Pandey from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who received 46,893 votes, and Saba Ahmed from the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) [JVM(P)] who garnered 25,547 votes.

In the previous 2014 assembly elections, Raj Kishore Mahto from the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) won the seat with 55,466 votes. Mathura Prasad Mahto from JMM was the runner-up with 54,340 votes, and Saba Ahmed from JVM(P) received 45,229 votes.
