Ghatkopar West is located in the Mumbai Suburban district and is a part of the Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency. Ghatkopar West is located near Mumbai's international airport and lies on the western edge of the Western Ghats. The area is well-connected by public transport and Mumbai Metro. The eastern part of the constituency has a significant Gujarati population.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP veteran Ram Kadam retained the seat with 70,263 votes, defeating independent candidate Sanjay Bhalerao, who received 41,474 votes. In the 2014 elections, Ram Kadam emerged victorious, securing 80,343 votes against Shiv Sena candidate Sudhir More, who garnered 38,427 votes.
