It is a suburban area that is part of the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, which also includes the Assembly segments of Borivali, Magathane, Dahisar, Kandivali East, and Charkop. The constituency has an estimated population of approximately 946,000 residents, reflecting the density within the urban landscape of Mumbai.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Aslam Shaikh of the Congress retained the seat, securing 79,494 votes. His closest competitor was Ramesh Singh Thakur of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who received 69,092 votes. In the 2014 elections, Aslam Shaikh won by garnering 56,574 votes. He defeated BJP's Ram Barot, who had received 54,271 votes.
