Mankhurd Shivajinagar is a part of the Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency has been a stronghold of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi despite strong competition from various political parties, including Shiv Sena, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Congress, and independent candidates like Mohammad Siraj Mohammad Iqbal.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Abu Asim Azmi won the seat by a significant margin of 69,036 votes. In the 2014 elections, he also achieved a substantial victory by a margin of 41,720 votes.
