Wai is one of the legislative Assembly segments located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is part of the Satara Lok Sabha constituency. Wai is situated on the banks of the Krishna River and was a prominent city during the Peshwa era. Wai is home to several prominent Marathi Brahmin families, including Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, and Gopikabai, wife of Nanasaheb Peshwa.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Makarand Jadhav Patil from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) retained the seat, securing 130,486 votes. His main opponent, Madan Prataparav Bhosale from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), received 86,839 votes. In the 2014 elections, Makarand Jadhav Patil emerged victorious, obtaining 101,218 votes, while Madan Prataparav Bhosale, then with the Congress, garnered 62,516 votes.
