Bridgerton Season 5 production begins; Francesca-Michaela's love story set for 2027

The fifth season of the Regency-era drama Bridgerton, will break its established two-year release pattern, with a return now confirmed for 2027.

Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria shared the update for Bridgerton Season 5 during the company’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Wednesday. In March 2026, the streaming platform released a first-look teaser for the new season.

Bridgerton Season 5: New love story takes centre stage

According to Netflix, production has begun in the UK on the eight-episode instalment. At the time, it was also confirmed that Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza, would be the new leading couple.

The series, based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels about the love lives of the eight Bridgerton siblings, will centre its fifth season on Francesca.

According to the official logline, "The fifth season of Bridgerton spotlights introverted middle daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd). Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions."

From Benedict to Francesca: The series evolution

Season 4 of Bridgerton, released in two parts on Netflix between January and February this year, focused on the love story of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, and Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha. The third season, which was also launched in two instalments from May to June 2024, starred Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan.

Season 2, released in March 2022, centred on Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, and Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley. The debut season, released in December 2020, followed Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and Simon Basset, played by Rage-Jean Page.

Netflix renewed Bridgerton for Seasons 5 and 6 in May 2025. After Season 5, the Bridgerton siblings still left to have their love stories told are Eloise Bridgerton played by Claudia Jessie, Gregory, played by Will Tilston, and Hyacinth, played by Florence Hunt.
