The second session of India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit 2012, How I Made It: Youth icons, got off to a raucous start when music director Anu Malik took the stage. Instead of being able to deliver his address, Malik gave in to pleas to sing his hits. He began with 'Garam Chai Ki Pyaali Ho' and continued with a medley of his popular hits.

Bollywood stars may be queuing up for a taste of her sartorial excellence, but fashion's favorite curly haired prodigy Masaba Gupta says she found her true calling and success after a period peppered with self-doubt and rejection. Daughter of cricket legend Vivian Richards and actor Neena Gupta, Masaba spoke of her struggle while reminiscing about her now famous first collection.

The surprisingly humble Imtiaz Ali began his address recalling his time on the Siri Fort stage as a theatre actor and commenting that he had never performed for an audience of this size during that time. He shrugged his shoulders and announced that he didn't really know what he was going to say about how he had made his first film, since it was, "mostly the accidents of your life which are more influential than the decision you are taking."

Ayushmann 'Vicky Donor' Khurrana's stint behind the podium can best be described in three words, "entertainment, entertainment, entertainment". The young actor's session at Mind Rocks began with a cacophonous cheer and ended with an equally boisterous sing along. The actor though was candid enough to admit that, "I was never a struggler. I came to Mumbai with a car and a chef and everything. The opportunity came to me when I was prepared for it."

Naukri.com founder and Chairman Sanjeev Bikchandani had the thankless task of following actor Ayushmann Khurrana right after he was done singing Paani da Rang, but delivered the most detailed road map to entrepreneurial success that the ones listening could have hoped for.

Pakistani superstar Ali Zafar boasts an incredibly vociferous following amongst the youth of India. The highlight of his story was his candid confession about why he started singing in the first place. The story goes that when he turned 16, he learned that girls like boys who can sing, so he decided to learn to sing. While sheepishly calling his early efforts as positively jarring, he was shouted down by a gaggle of screaming girls who swore it could not be true.

The well-spoken singer and actor completed his presentation with a beautiful deflection of a good question. Asked how much his good looks had contributed to his success he replied, "As much as this microphone contributed to the advancement of your question."

The newly minted heartthrob, Ayushmann Khurrana, chose a mix of poetry and comedy to woo the audience and the cheering refused to stop as he recounted his story, from his days as an RJ, to the film which catapulted him to instant fame.

Then came the big question, screamed out from the balcony by a young fan; "Are you single, are you married?" Khurrana replied in the affirmative and a sigh rose from the audience.

In his childhood home of Jamshedpur, Imtiaz Ali claimed that no one had even seen a film shoot, so the idea of becoming a film director wasn't even a dream. He simply fell into things and a bizarre series of events brought him to where he is now. Or as he put it, "The tragedies of your life become your strengths."

Just as Imtiaz was about to launch into another story he interrupted himself to tell one of the people in the tech pit to please quiet down. Catching himself he pointed out that, "this is what happens when you're a director."

Masaba Gupta kept her smile on when an audience member decided to quiz her about the price tag on her creations, despite her confession about making accessories out of leftovers and a lack of professional degree. "I promise to complete the degree for you. I design for the average woman and try to keep the price reasonable. My profit margins are really low," replied Gupta.

Another interesting question displayed India Today's dedication to asking the controversial and tough questions. Headlines Today's Preeti Choudhry asked Anu Malik point blank, "Is Indian Idol fixed?" Without taking offense, he sardonically asked, "Main itna tuta hua hoon ke koi mujhe fix kar sake?" (Am I so broken that someone can fix me?). He went on to categorically state that the show was not and could not be fixed.
