Centre rejigs senior bureaucracy, key ministries get new secretaries

The government has reshuffled the higher bureaucracy, with the Cabinet Committee approving multiple key secretary-level appointments across ministries.

With the close of the financial year on March 31, the central government has effected a reshuffle in the higher bureaucracy, with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) clearing a series of key appointments across ministries and departments.

Senior IAS officer Nivedita Shukla Verma has been appointed Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, with additional charge of the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare.

Chanchal Kumar has been named Secretary of Information and Broadcasting.

Rohit Kansal will take over as Secretary of Rural Development, while Narendra Bhooshan has been appointed Secretary of Land Resources under the same ministry.

Another officer, Chandra Sekhar Kumar, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Rainfed Area Authority with the rank of Secretary.

Sanjay Jaju will serve as Secretary of Development of North Eastern Region, and Srivatsa Krishna has been appointed Secretary of Minority Affairs.

Tejveer Singh has been named Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. Sanjay Lohiya has been appointed Special Secretary, Department of Financial Services, with the rank of Secretary.

Bharat Harbanslal Khera will serve as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises with the rank of Secretary, while Abhishek Singh has been appointed Director General of the National Testing Agency with the rank of Secretary.

Bhuvnesh Kumar has been appointed Secretary of Tourism.

The appointments have been approved by the ACC.
