Officials from Udhna Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation. Police Inspector RM Thakor said the newborn’s body had allegedly been dumped in a garbage heap by an unidentified person. Investigators suspect the garbage was later set ablaze, or accidentally caught fire, causing severe burns to the body.

Preliminary findings indicate that the baby may already have been dead before the fire broke out, though the exact circumstances surrounding the death will only become clear after the postmortem examination.

Police have sent the remains for medical examination to determine the baby’s exact age, gender and cause of death.

Investigators are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify who abandoned the newborn. Police are also checking nearby clinics, hospitals and gynaecologists as part of the investigation. Authorities are additionally trying to trace suspicious persons and vehicles seen in the area during the late-night and early morning hours.
