Congress blames hospital negligence for local leader's wife's death
The Congress has alleged that Sangita Shetty died after being denied admission at a civic hospital in Kalwa. The party has sought criminal action, compensation and a time-bound inquiry response by 6 June.

The Congress on Thursday alleged that the wife of a local leader died in civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa in Thane due to medical negligence.
The party said Sangita Shetty, wife of Kalwa block Congress committee president Rajendra Shetty, died on May 26 while being shifted to another facility.
"She was rushed to the hospital's Anand Dighe Heart Disease Centre but was denied admission under the pretext of 'no beds' despite availability. She passed away without receiving even basic medical care because she was trapped in the paperwork process of the Ayushman Bharat scheme," Thane district Congress president Rahul Pingle alleged.
Pingle led a protest at the hospital and sought a case of culpable homicide against the responsible doctors and administrative staff.
The kin of the deceased must be given Rs 25 lakh as compensation, Pingle added.
"If the Thane Municipal Corporation does not take action in the matter by June 6, including dismissal of erring staff, the Congress will hold massive protests," he said.
In a letter addressed to the victim's husband, hospital dean Dr Swapnali Kadam stated that an internal inquiry is underway. She assured the hospital would revert with its official findings by June 6.
