Gujarat man kills wife 3 months into marriage, arrested after misleading cops
Police in Gir Somnath have arrested a man after alleging he strangled his wife and passed it off as suicide. The case shifted to a murder probe after injury marks, scene evidence and the post-mortem raised suspicion.
A woman’s death initially reported as suicide in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district has turned into a suspected murder case after police alleged that her husband strangled her to death following a domestic dispute, barely three months after their love marriage.
Police said the accused, Ravi Solanki, initially tried to portray the death of his wife, Radhika, as suicide, claiming that she had hanged herself inside their home. However, investigators later found inconsistencies in his account after examining the body and the scene of the incident.
According to police, Ravi and Radhika had married around three months ago after being in a relationship for some time. Their families had reportedly consented to the marriage. Investigators said the relationship, however, had become strained in recent weeks, with the couple allegedly arguing frequently over financial issues and food-related disputes.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of May 24 and 25 inside their bedroom.
Police said Ravi informed others that Radhika had died by suicide, but officers who reached the hospital noticed suspicious injury marks around her neck. Investigators also found no physical evidence at the house supporting the claim that she had died by hanging.
Following preliminary findings and a complaint lodged by Radhika’s father, police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police allegedly found that Ravi had pinned Radhika down on the bed and strangled her using the thread of her blouse. Investigators believe the strangulation lasted several minutes and caused her death.
The body was sent for forensic post-mortem examination, where doctors also reportedly raised suspicion of murder. Police have taken Ravi into custody and further investigation is underway.
