Parliament Special Session Highlights: NDA announces nationwide protests after women's bill fails Lok Sabha test
UPDATED: Apr 17, 2026 22:42 IST
Special Parliament Session Live Updates: Chaos erupted in the Lok Sabha as Rahul Gandhi attacked the government over amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act, alleging it aims to sideline the caste census and reshape India’s electoral map. He also took a swipe at Narendra Modi, calling him the “magician of Balakot, demonetisation and Operation Sindoor,” sparking protests from BJP members. Gandhi questioned the intent behind three bills to operationalise 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies, alongside a proposed delimitation exercise that could expand Lok Sabha seats to 850. Voting is expected around 4 pm. In the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh was re-elected Deputy Chairman for the third consecutive time. Follow indiatoday.tech for live updates.
