A Samajwadi Party women’s wing leader was allegedly assaulted inside her home in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, with police registering an FIR against five people, including family members of a former leader of the area. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, has triggered a police investigation into the circumstances that led to the violence.

The victim, Gargi Patel, district president of the women’s wing of the Samajwadi Party in Chandauli, alleged that she was attacked at her residence in Madiya village under the Mughalsarai Kotwali area on Thursday.

According to police and the complainant, former head of the Kashi Vidyapeeth block Pyarelal Yadav, had visited Gargi Patel’s house for a meeting related to a property dealing business in which the two were reportedly partners. While Yadav was present at the house, his wife, son and daughter allegedly arrived at the residence.

A dispute soon broke out between the two families and escalated into a physical altercation. The assault was captured on CCTV camera installed at her residence. The footage shows the attackers dragging her by the hair, kicking and punching her repeatedly, and allegedly using a table during the assault. Yadav's family left and then came back again in some time and started beating her. While leaving this time, they even tried to assault Patel's daughter. Patel was seen bleeding, sustained multiple injuries in the incident and later got admitted for medical treatment. All this while, an old member of the family tried to intervene and mediate but he was threatened to meet the same fate if he tried to get in the matter.

Patel alleged that the accused barged into her house and began assaulting her children before turning on her when she tried to intervene. “They hit me with kicks, punches, a study table and an iron rod,” she claimed. She further alleged that a financial dispute related to their business partnership may have been behind the attack.

The SP leader also claimed that some political figures may have played a role in creating misunderstandings within the Yadav family, though she did not name anyone.

Following the incident, Patel’s daughter alerted the police. A police team reached the spot and shifted the injured leader to the district hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anant Chandra Shekhar said police registered a case immediately after receiving the complaint. “The victim has informed us that there was an ongoing business-related dispute between the parties. Five people have been named in the FIR, and all aspects of the case are being investigated,” he said.

Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the assault. Further investigation is underway.
