DMK leader and Tamil Nadu LoP Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, blaming the party for the continued electoral success of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also accused Congress of lacking “basic decency and gratitude."

Addressing party workers and supporters, he said he had initially believed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were primarily responsible for the BJP’s repeated electoral victories. However, he claimed the Congress itself had become the main reason behind the saffron party’s continued dominance.

“I thought Modi and Amit Shah were responsible for the BJP’s continuous victories, but the real reason is Congress,” Udhayanidhi said during his address.

The DMK leader also defended his party’s role in supporting Congress candidates during elections, stating that DMK workers had worked tirelessly to ensure the party’s victories in several constituencies.

“Our cadres shed blood and sweat to make Congress candidates win. Even in this election, our workers stood by them and campaigned wholeheartedly,” he said.

Escalating his criticism further, Udhayanidhi alleged that Congress lacked gratitude despite the support extended by alliance partners. He asserted that the DMK should no longer trust the party in future political battles.

“We should never trust Congress again. It is a party without even basic decency or gratitude,” he remarked.

The remarks are expected to trigger fresh political debate within opposition circles, especially amid ongoing discussions about opposition unity and alliance politics ahead of future elections.

Udhayanidhi also suggested that the public would eventually give Congress a “proper lesson”, indicating growing frustration within sections of the DMK leadership over its alliance dynamics.

The Congress leadership has not yet officially responded to the comments.

The Congress, Left parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have remained allies of the DMK since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Following the recent state election results, these alliance partners reportedly shifted their support towards Vijay’s party to form a new coalition government in the state.
