Sports bike speeding at 140 kmph rams car in Telangana; 5 killed

A horrific road accident involving a car and a speeding sports bike claimed the lives of five people, including two children, in Telangana's Mahabubnagar district. The incident took place after midnight on Sunday, the police said.
The mishap occurred when the car was taking a U-turn and a bike suddenly rammed into it, per the police. The sports bike was allegedly travelling at a speed of 140 kmph at the time of the incident.
The police said that two people on the bike and three travelling in the car were injured in the accident and were shifted to hospital, where they all succumbed to their injuries.
The impact of the crash was so severe that both the car and the sports bike were left mangled.
Those killed included three members of the same family who were travelling in the car — Arshiya Begum, 30, and two children aged 2 and 7. The man riding the sports bike also lost his life.
He has been identified as 25-year-old Hyderabad-based biker Yakub Afzal. His pillion, whose identity could not be ascertained immediately, also died during treatment.
Locals have claimed that the road where the incident took place is a hub for illegal bike racing, accusing the police of turning a blind eye to the issue.
Asked about reports that bike racing could have caused the accident, a police official, cited by news agency PTI, said they are inquiring into it. Further investigation into the accident is underway, the official said.
