Violent clashes erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal after a mob opposing the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid clashed with the police. The survey was initiated following a court order in response to a complaint alleging that the mosque was constructed by demolishing a temple during the Mughal era.
The police have filed cases against notable figures, including Sambhal MP Zia-ur-Rehman, for inciting violence. Local tensions were fueled by a dispute regarding the site's historical significance, resulting in a violent group confrontation near the mosque.
