Cyclone Remal's trail of destruction: Roofs blown off, trees uprooted, two dead

Two people lost their lives in West Bengal as Cyclone Remal caused extensive destruction after making landfall between the state's coast and Bangladesh on Sunday night.

Flight operations, which had been suspended since Sunday noon, have now resumed at Kolkata airport.

In its latest update on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Remal has weakened to a "cyclonic storm" and is expected to diminish further throughout the day.

Authorities evacuated over 100,000 people from vulnerable areas in West Bengal as a precaution.

The cyclone struck land around 8.30 pm on Sunday between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh, with wind speeds reaching up to 135 km/h.
