Jordan’s Ambassador to India, Yousef Abdelghani, on Friday said some countries behave as though they are “above the law”, stressing that lasting stability in the Middle East can only be achieved through dialogue and peaceful negotiations. Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 in Delhi, the envoy warned that conflict only brings suffering and disruption, affecting energy supplies, global trade and people-to-people ties across the region. Abdelghani also dismissed talk of redrawing the map of the Middle East as “nonsense”, stressing that the sovereignty of every country in the region must be respected. Responding to remarks by Donald Trump suggesting that Iran’s map could change after the war and debates around the so-called “Greater Israel” project, he cautioned that calls for regime change or altering borders often lead to instability. While criticising Iran’s use of its airspace to target Israel and Gulf countries, he said Jordan remains neutral in the conflict and continues to advocate peaceful negotiations as the only viable way forward.
