The tangy and slightly sweet flavour instantly feels cooling and comforting, especially during hot afternoons. Homemade aam panna not only tastes delicious but also brings back memories of Indian summers spent enjoying seasonal drinks and fresh mangoes.
Ingredients
2 medium raw mangoes (kachcha aam)
-
3–4 tablespoons sugar or jaggery (adjust to taste)
teaspoon roasted cumin powder
A few fresh mint leaves
Black salt as per taste
2–3 cups chilled water
Ice cubes
HOW TO MAKE AAM PANNA
Step 1: Cook the raw mangoes
Wash the raw mangoes properly. Pressure cook them for 2–3 whistles or boil them in water until soft.
Step 2: Extract the pulp
Let the mangoes cool. Peel the skin and scoop out the soft pulp into a bowl.
Step 3: Blend the mixture
Add sugar or jaggery, roasted cumin powder, black salt, and mint leaves to the pulp. Blend everything into a smooth mixture.
Step 4: Add chilled water
Transfer the mixture to a jug and add chilled water according to the consistency you prefer. Mix well.
Step 5: Serve cold
Pour into glasses with ice cubes. Garnish with mint leaves and a pinch of roasted cumin powder before serving.
Why aam panna is popular during summer
Raw mangoes are commonly used in Indian households during summer because they are believed to help cool the body. Aam panna is often consumed to beat the heat, stay refreshed, and add electrolytes lost through sweating.
Tips to make it more refreshing
Use jaggery instead of sugar for a deeper flavour
Add extra mint leaves for freshness
Chill the drink for at least 30 minutes before serving
You can store the concentrated pulp in the refrigerator for 2–3 days
A chilled glass of homemade aam panna is tangy, sweet, and perfect for hot summer afternoons.
