Odisha sees massive railway expansion as Rs 90,000 crore rail infra projects are underway, boosting connectivity, station upgrades, and network capacity with faster execution across passenger and freight corridors.

Odisha is witnessing a large push in railway development, with Rs 90,000 crore rail infra projects in Odisha currently under execution. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the state is seeing a strong expansion in both network capacity and execution speed.

The focus is on improving passenger travel, freight movement, and overall connectivity across regions.

From new railway lines to station redevelopment, the scale of work marks one of the biggest infrastructure upgrades in the state in recent years.

MASSIVE RAILWAY INVESTMENT IN ODISHA

According to the Ministry of Railways, projects worth over Rs 90,000 crore are underway across Odisha. This includes major track expansion, new rail lines, and upgrades in key routes.

Vaishnaw said this level of investment shows the government’s focus on strengthening both passenger and freight systems. The aim is to make travel smoother while also supporting economic activity through better logistics.

NETWORK EXPANSION AND FASTER EXECUTION

A key part of the update is the Odisha railway network expansion, which is being pushed at a faster pace than before. The projects are not only large in scale but also moving ahead with quicker execution timelines.

The Centre has also increased budget support, with Odisha receiving Rs 10,928 crore for railway infrastructure. This funding is helping speed up construction and modernisation work across multiple zones.

STATION MODERNISATION AND PASSENGER FOCUS

Along with track expansion, railway station redevelopment in Odisha is also a major part of the plan. As many as 59 stations are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

These stations are being redesigned to improve passenger facilities, waiting areas, and overall comfort. Vaishnaw has also reviewed key projects like Bhubaneswar Railway Station redevelopment, stressing timely completion and better execution quality.

CONNECTIVITY BOOST ACROSS DISTRICTS

The railway expansion plan is also aimed at improving access across all 30 districts of Odisha. New and upgraded routes are expected to connect remote areas with major cities, improving daily travel and trade movement.

Projects like coastal corridors and new rail lines are part of this wider connectivity push, which is expected to ease congestion and improve travel efficiency across the state.

The Rs 90,000 crore rail infra projects in Odisha show a strong push toward modernising railway systems in the state. With faster execution, station upgrades, and new connectivity projects, Odisha’s rail network is set for a major transformation in the coming years.
