Bengal government suspends 3 IPS officers over 'lapses' in RG Kar rape-murder case

The West Bengal government has suspended three senior IPS officers, including the former Kolkata Police Commissioner, over alleged lapses in the RG Kar case investigation. Chief Minister Suvendhu Adhikari announced the suspension, citing that the initial probe was mishandled. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the officials. The action follows multiple allegations from the victim's family, who claimed attempts were made to tamper with the crime scene and remove evidence. Furthermore, the officers were accused of offering compensation to the family on behalf of the state and failing to prevent a mob from vandalising the medical college and hospital.
