UIDAI extends free Aadhaar update service: Check step-by-step process
UIDAI has extended the free online Aadhaar document update facility till June 14, 2027. The service is available only through the myAadhaar portal for identity and address proof updates.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online Aadhaar document update facility for another year. Aadhaar holders can now update their identity and address proof documents online free of cost through the myAadhaar portal till June 14, 2027.
The earlier deadline for the free Aadhaar update service was June 14, 2026. According to UIDAI’s office memorandum dated May 13, 2026, the facility has now been extended from June 15, 2026 to June 14, 2027 following a positive response from Aadhaar users updating their details online.
WHO CAN USE THE FREE AADHAAR UPDATE SERVICE?
The free facility is available for Aadhaar holders who want to upload proof of identity and proof of address documents online through the myAadhaar portal.
UIDAI has been encouraging people, especially those who obtained Aadhaar many years ago and have not updated documents recently, to keep their records updated for better accuracy in the Aadhaar database.
However, the free service is available only online. Aadhaar updates done through physical Aadhaar enrolment centres will still attract applicable charges.
HOW TO UPDATE AADHAAR ONLINE FOR FREE
Aadhaar holders can complete the document update process through the myAadhaar portal in a few simple steps:
- Visit the myAadhaar portal
- Log in using Aadhaar number and OTP
- Verify identity and address details
- Select proof of identity and address documents
- Upload documents in JPEG, PNG or PDF format
- Submit the request online
The uploaded file size should remain below 2 MB.
WHAT CANNOT BE UPDATED ONLINE?
Certain Aadhaar updates still require a visit to an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. These include:
- Biometric updates such as fingerprints, iris scan and photographs
- Mobile number updates
- Gender correction
- Date of birth changes
These services are not covered under the free online update facility.
MAADHAAR APP TO BE RETIRED
UIDAI has also announced that the existing mAadhaar app will soon be retired. Aadhaar holders are being encouraged to move to the new Aadhaar app, which offers QR-based Aadhaar sharing, improved privacy controls and easier access to Aadhaar services.

WHY UPDATING AADHAAR MATTERS
Keeping Aadhaar details updated helps ensure smooth access to government schemes, banking services and identity verification processes.
Outdated information can sometimes lead to authentication problems or delays in accessing services linked to Aadhaar.
