Rise in silk price: Silk rearers rejoice; weavers, traders and exporters in quandary
Last fortnight, when the price of raw silk soared to Rs 575 a kg, rising by almost 30 per cent since October, the 'queen of textiles' was at her costliest ever.

However, the Indian silk industry - annual turnover Rs 250 crore - which had long been waiting for silk prices to rise, paradoxically finds itself in a twisted state. The 30 lakh silk rearers spread over 13 states, who produce 4,805 tonnes of raw silk annually, making India the fourth largest producer in the world, have cheered the record-breaking rise.
