The age of miracles, whatever the pessimists may say, is not yet past, as was conclusively proved in Kohi, a small village in Durg district of Madhya Pradesh. A young man named Bisram, after a day's hard work in the fields, was returning home. He was weary, and his tired feet stumbled over a snake in the grass. The angry reptile hissed and struck.

Bisram collapsed, and his inert body was discovered by villagers who carried him to the village. All attempts to resuscitate the young man failed, and finally thevaidsflung up their hands and gave up the struggle. The inert body was laid out for the final journey and preparations for the cremation began.

However, before anything drastic could be done to the seemingly lifeless Bisram, an itinerant snake-charmer offered his services, asking the villagers not to lose heart. A little later, the dulcet tones of the been rent the still air. According to witnesses a snake, apparently materialising out of nowhere, slithered its way to the inert body, bit it, and went away.
