Mohan Kapur questions hype around Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: It is not real
Mohan Kapur said he does not understand the hype around Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar franchise. He mentioned that despite the film's box office success, it is not real.

Director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise, featuring actor Ranveer Singh, drew a mixed response from critics despite its significant box office success. Amid the film series' commercial run, actor Mohan Kapur, known for playing Yusuf Khan in The Marvels (2023), has said he does not fully understand the level of praise surrounding the franchise and described it as unreal.
In an interview with the YouTube channel SiddharthKannanOfficial, Mohan spoke about the response to Dhurandhar and said he did not entirely agree with the excessive appreciation the film has been receiving. His remarks came even as he acknowledged the film’s writing and storytelling.
Recalling his experience of watching the film, Mohan appreciated its writing and storytelling. He said, "I watched the film alone in a theatre two weeks before the second part came out. It was the first time I had ever watched a film alone, and when I left the theatre, I honestly couldn’t understand why everyone was praising it so much. I just didn’t get it."
"Dhurandhar is a phenomenal film. It’s very intelligent storytelling, which is why it has received both criticism and applause. It’s cleverly written. Now, has the film claimed to be the truth? No. It’s a story," the actor went on.
Mohan said that even though the film is inspired by real events, the premise is wrong.
"They’ve taken real instances and woven a very clever plot around them to make you think, 'Oh my God!' But it’s not real. From the very first frame, the moment you see R Madhavan, you know the premise is wrong because the character they are depicting or implying was never there," he added.
R Madhavan's character Ajay Sanyal in Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been linked to NSA (National Security Advisor) chief Ajit Doval.
Ranveer plays an Indian intelligence agent, Jaskirat Singh Rangi (alias Hamza Ali Mazari), in the spy thriller franchise. In the film, his character infiltrates Karachi's criminal syndicates and Pakistani politics to avenge the 26/11 attacks while confronting larger global threats.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge has overtaken Baahubali 2 worldwide after 46 days in theatres. The milestone positions the film as the second highest-grossing Indian release globally, behind only Dangal.
The film also features actors Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge had a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
