Pak politician Nabil Gabol proposes Lyari Ka Gabbar as a reponse to Dhurandhar 2
Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol proposed Lyari Ka Gabbar as his response to Dhurandhar 2. He claimed the film misrepresented him and triggered widespread online trolling, fuelling a cross-border debate.

Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol has announced plans to make his own film after facing intense online trolling following the release of Dhurandhar 2. Claiming that a character in the film is based on him, Gabol said he intends to counter the portrayal with a project inspired by his version of events.
Reacting to the backlash, Gabol stated that he would respond “powerfully” and reveal what Lyari “actually is” through cinema. His proposed film, tentatively titled Lyari Ka Gabbar, is positioned as a direct response to filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s espionage drama, which has sparked debate across social media platforms.
Why does Nabeel Gabol believe the film is about him?
In a recent interaction with a content creator, Gabol pointed to the character of Jameel Jamali, played by Rakesh Bedi, stating that it closely resembles him. He highlighted that he served as the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Lyari during the period depicted in the film, suggesting a direct connection.
Gabol also criticised the character’s portrayal, particularly a narrative twist that shows the figure as an intelligence operative. He argued that the depiction misrepresented his personality and role, adding that the film exaggerated aspects of Lyari’s image.
What did he say about the trolling?
Addressing the online criticism, Gabol said he had noticed questions on Indian social media about his silence. He responded by asserting that he would deliver a strong reply, drawing parallels with real-world tensions. He also maintained that the people of Lyari remain unaffected by such portrayals.
What is Dhurandhar 2 about?
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the Dhurandhar franchise stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy operating in Karachi’s Lyari area. The films also feature Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun and Sanjay Dutt in key roles.
The second instalment has emerged as a major box office success, crossing Rs 1,000 crore worldwide within a week of its release.
Has Gabol raised concerns earlier?
Gabol had earlier voiced similar objections when the first Dhurandhar film released, stating that his character was not portrayed accurately. He reiterated that his real-life persona was far more assertive than what was shown on screen.
