Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan says he has seen it all – from chaotic comedy sets to high-stakes productions mounted across continents. The filmmaker talked to India Today about his next film Bhooth Bangla, and commented on his working relationship with many actors, including Salman Khan and Akshaye Khanna, who are often dubbed "difficult."

“Salman was so sweet to me”

Priyadarshan also talked about his bond with Salman Khan. The two teamed up in the 2005 film Kyon... Ki. The director dismissed perceptions about Khan, and shared a personal anecdote. He commented on the superstar's softer, more collaborative side.

“Salman Khan loves me,” said Priyadarshan, recalling a recent meeting even though they weren’t working on a film together. “He told me, ‘Garu, next time we work together, I’ll come at 1 am instead of 10 pm,’” he added with a laugh.

Talking about their time shooting in Romania, the director said, “He was very sweet to me,” emphasising the warm bond they share.

"Never found Akshaye Khanna difficult either"

The same philosophy extends to actors like Akshaye Khanna, who, despite a reputation for being reserved or particular, has never posed a challenge for the filmmaker. Akshaye has worked in several films with Priyadarshan, including Hulchul (2004), Hungama (2003) among others.

“A lot of people say, ‘Oh, it’s difficult to work with him.’ I never found it difficult. Thank God,” Priyadarshan recalled. “You accept a person as what he is and deal with him. There’s no problem,” he added.

On the professional front, Priyadarshan is gearing up for the release of Bhooth Bangla, headlined by Akshay Kumar. This project marks their reunion after nearly 14 years. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, the late actor Asrani, and Wamiqa Gabbi in important roles.
