Inside Karan Johar's birthday party: Kajol, Kareena, Alia-Ranbir glam up the night
Designer Manish Malhotra shared inside pictures from filmmaker Karan Johar's birthday party, revealing a guest list packed with film stars. The celebrities that attended the bash were Kajol, Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and others.
Filmmaker Karan Johar’s birthday party turned into a star-studded gathering, with several film personalities attending the celebration. On Wednesday, designer Manish Malhotra shared inside pictures from the event on Instagram, offering a glimpse of the guest list and the mood of the evening.
The pictures featured Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Zoya Akhtar, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Sidharth Malhotra, Sara Ali Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Shanaya Kapoor, among others. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor also reportedly attended the bash.

Sharing a picture of Rani Mukerji and Kajol, Manish wrote, “From Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to now (sic)” with heart emojis.
In another picture featuring Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, he wrote, “Friends forever (sic).”
Posting a photo with Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra, he called them “My most favourite couple (sic).”
For a picture with Vicky Kaushal, Manish wrote, “Dapper always (sic).”

Karan and Manish’s long association
Karan and Manish have been friends for more than three decades. Their association began as a professional acquaintance in 1993 and grew over the years. Manish has worked as the costume designer and stylist on several of Karan’s films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).
Earlier, Manish had recalled how he first met Karan on the sets of Gumrah (1993), which was produced by Yash Johar. In an interview with We Are Yuvaa, the designer earlier shared that Sridevi had called him for the film, and whenever he rang Yash Johar with questions, Karan would answer the phone.
Recalling those early exchanges, Manish said Karan once told him, “You never say hi”. To which, he replied, “Oh, I’m so sorry. Hi Karan, how are you? Can I speak to Yash ji?” He added that the two later went out for dinner one night, and that was how their friendship began.
Manish has also said that working with a close friend for so many years is rare. He said not many people would feel comfortable telling Karan Johar when something does not work, but added that honesty remains part of their professional relationship.
The two recently shared light-hearted banter on Pitch To Get Rich, where they appeared as investors. Addressing one of the pitching teams, Karan said, “Everyone works hard. In this country, we overdo it. So no points for sincerity and hard work from me, that’s basic.” Manish replied, “Karan, you never gave me credit for that either, even though I work hard day and night, especially for your films.”
Karan responded, “I have seen your price tags. You are well-compensated for that hard work! And your turnover is...”

On the work front, Karan recently said that his 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is being adapted into a long-form series, saying the format would give the story and its characters more room than a feature film. He has also confirmed that Koffee with Karan will return with Season 9 this year. He is also reportedly preparing to direct his eighth film, a large-scale family drama backed by Dharma Productions.
