Learnt it the hard way: Kritika Kamra on hiding relationship with Gaurav Kapur

Actor Kritika Kamra has admitted that keeping her relationship with cricket commentator Gaurav Kapur away from the public eye was a deliberate choice. She said she wanted to share it only when she felt ready, after being certain about the relationship and the stage it had reached.

Kritika and Gaurav dated for a few years before making their relationship public in December 2025, when she posted about it on Instagram. The announcement surprised many fans. The couple later got married in an intimate ceremony in Mumbai on March 11 this year, followed by an after-party.

Why Kritika chose to keep her relationship private

Speaking about the decision to Hindustan Times, Kritika said it was "absolutely intentional". She explained that she has always been guarded about her personal life. This is especially because she has grown up in the public space since she began acting at 18. Looking back, she said that in the early years, she did not fully understand the impact of putting everything out in the open.

She said, "You say anything, you do anything. Everything is on the internet forever. I learnt it the hard way that there are some things that have to be just your own. You kind of have to protect that. In so many interviews and stuff, people would ask me about my relationship status, when will you get married." The actor said that she wanted to wait until she was sure.

The ‘hard launch’ and timing of the announcement

The Matka King star said she had decided long ago that she would only "hard launch" her relationship when the time was right. According to Kritika, that moment came when she felt comfortable introducing that part of her life to the world. She said that once marriage was on the cards, keeping it entirely hidden was no longer practical.

"Eventually, we had arrived at that, point in our relationship where I was like, ‘OK, I’m now happy to introduce this part of my life to the world’ because obviously if you’re going to get married, it’s not gonna be like, what are we going to run away or anything,” she added.

The decision of a lifetime

Kritika added that the decision was not made after one conversation or because of one question. She said it was something she and Gaurav discussed many times and thought through carefully. In her words, it was a decision guided by both her heart and her head, and not one she took lightly.

The couple finally formalised their union with a signing ceremony at Gaurav's home in Mumbai, attended by immediate family and close friends.

On the work front, Kritika was recently seen in Vijay Varma's series Matka King.
