Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji is set for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

The teaser for the upcoming period drama Raja Shivaji was released on March 31, 2026. Actor Riteish Deshmukh, who plays the titular role, has also directed the film.

The teaser shows Riteish as Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fighting the Mughals. His actor-wife, Genelia Deshmukh, plays his wife, Saibai in the film. The two-minute, 31 second first look offers a glimpse at the battles fought between the Maratha empire and Mughals.

Apart from Riteish and Genelia, actors Sanjay Dutt as Afzal Khan, Abhishek Bachchan as Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosale and Mahesh Manjrekar as Lakhuji Jadhav are also seen in the teaser. Actors Vidya Balan, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amol Gupte are also part of the ensemble.

Raja Shivaji traces the journey of a young Shivaji Bhonsale as he defies powerful, entrenched empires to establish the Maratha kingdom. Set against a volatile era in Indian history, the story follows his efforts to plant the seeds of Swarajya (self-rule), through strategic brilliance and resilience.

Musical duo Ajay–Atul are composing the score, while cinematographer Santosh Sivan is handling the visuals. The teaser of Raja Shivaji also features epic battle sequences, horses, elephants and royal palaces, giving a look at its rich world-building.

The film is co-produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia under the Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company banner respectively. Raja Shivaji will be released worldwide in Marathi, Hindi and Telugu languages.

The film is set for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, which falls on Maharashtra Day, a state holiday commemorating the formation of Maharashtra.
