RGV: Dhurandhar 2 shows Dawood Ibrahim incorrectly, he is inactive by choice
Director Ram Gopal Varma questioned the portrayal of gangster Dawood Ibrahim in Dhurandhar 2. While praising the film, he suggested Dawood may have stepped away from crime years ago.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is a self-confessed fan of the Dhurandhar films, but he disagrees with the portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim in Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Despite admiring director Aditya Dhar's work, he believes the depiction does not align with his understanding of the gangster's current status.
In a discussion with writer Hussain Zaidi on his YouTube channel, Varma praised the film's craft and storytelling but expressed disagreement with its portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim. He said, "The only element I disagree with is that. I feel that the portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim... They might have their own sources (but) I think it is being shown incorrectly."
RGV's take on Dawood's potrayal
In Dhurandhar 2, the gangster is referred to as 'Bade Sahab' and is depicted as orchestrating terror operations in India from Pakistan. However, Varma suggested this interpretation might not match his understanding.
He clarified that he does not claim absolute authority on the subject but feels the narrative does not align with his knowledge of Dawood's current status. "It's not like I can say that with authority. But it is not falling in line with what I know," he explained.
Varma added that, based on what he has heard, Dawood has been largely inactive. "He is inactive by choice, because he stopped doing anything. I believe he retired from criminal activities 20 years ago," he said.
At the same time, he acknowledged the ambiguity surrounding such figures, noting that no one can definitively confirm or deny the truth. "Nobody can be an expert, nobody can know this is the truth. We all think Dhurandhar has shown something... I can't disprove it, and the director can't prove it as well," he concluded.
