Saba Azad on Hrithik Roshan's Storm, delay in Anurag Kashyap's Bandar release

While Saba Azad preps for the release of season 2 of her much-loved show Who's Your Gynac?, the trailer of her next big outing Bandar dropped today which showcases her in a very different avatar.

In an exclusively chat with India Today, the actor called Bandar an important film and shared her experience of working with Bobby Deol and Anurag Kashyap.

"It's so crazy because you keep sitting for a year and nothing is happening, and then suddenly everything releases at the same time. It's bizarre. But Bandar is releasing in two weeks, and I am really looking forward to it. Anurag Kashyap is amazing, Bobby Deol is so amazing. And Sanya Malhotra is just fantastic in the film. It's a pretty scary film, but also a really good one. We got to take it to TIFF last year. It's also such an important film. It's based on a true story, and we are really excited to show it to everyone,” Saba said.

As readers may know, Bandar's release faced a major roadblock in India before finally getting a go-ahead to hit cinema halls. The film, which revolves around the Me-Too movement, also stars Sapna Pabbi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Raj B. Shetty and Jitendra Joshi, and will release on June 5.

When asked if a project's delay in release also impacts an actor, Saba replied, "Of course it does because you know every work that you do is like a bit of your showreel, right? Because you are showing people what you can do, so other people can also imagine you in a certain way or in another way. And it's also a lot of hard work. It's more like 'jungle me mor nacha kisne dekha (the peacock danced in the jungle, but did anyone see it?). So, if the world doesn't see the work you have done, it's as good as it's not [been done]."

Apart from this Kashyap movie, Saba Azad is also working on another interesting project, Storm. The web show which is helmed by her boyfriend Hrithik Roshan's home banner HRX Films, marks his OTT production debut.

"I just wrapped Storm a few days back, and I am totally zonked because we have been doing night shoots. So, I am in another time zone currently (laughs). It's my sleep time. But Storm was incredible. Ajitpal Singh is a genius and only an idiot will say no to him if he comes to you with a script. He is just amazing and I also got to work, share screen with a bunch of brilliant women. Parvathy Thiruvothu, oh my god, I love her. Storm was actually an incredible experience, and I am so glad I could work on it," Saba said. The series also stars Alaya F, Srishti Shrivastava, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Rrama Sharma in pivotal roles.

On a final note, Saba Azad spoke about how her show Who’s Your Gynac? has helped people open on topics that are usually considered taboo. The actor recalled being overwhelmed by the response after the first season dropped, sharing that within a week, her inbox and comment section were flooded with messages from young women.

According to her, many thanked the team for addressing subjects that are rarely spoken about openly, especially around women’s bodies and discomfort. "They told me how they watched the show with their parents, boyfriends, and husbands, which made conversations easier through humour. That response felt reassuring, as it made me realise we had created something meaningful and impactful," Saba concluded.
