Actor Varun Dhawan recently shared an incident from the 90s when his family received a threat from the underworld. This forced them to leave their house and stay elsewhere for a day.

The 38-year-old revealed that many celebrities were getting such calls at the time. Their staff initially handled the calls and unknowingly gave out their address, which made the situation worse.

Calls from the underworld

In a conversation with Yuvaa (a youth-based news organisation), Varun explained, "We were getting them too. We had been receiving them for quite some time, but we didn’t realise it because the staff were arguing with whoever was calling. The staff even gave out our full address and told the person where to meet, ‘Come meet me in that garden; I’ll beat you there.'"

Warning call to David Dhawan

He added that an actor even contacted his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, to warn him. Varun said, "He said that this had gone out of hand and that the person was now saying he would come with guns and that he knew our address and office timings. When my dad asked who had said this, he took the staff member’s name. So we had to leave our house and stay somewhere else that day. It is funny, but it is not funny actually."

Work projects

On the professional front, Varun was last seen in the film Border 2. Directed by Anurag Singh, the movie stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh playing key roles. The film was a commercial success and earned over Rs 450 crore worldwide.

He will be next in the romantic comedy film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai alongside Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. Earlier slated for a June 5 release, the film will now release on June 12 to avoid competition with Yash's Toxic. In an official statement posted by Tips Films, the production house backing Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, the makers highlighted that they don't believe in competing "unnecessarily" at the box office.
