Drishyam 3 ending explained: Georgekutty's story far from over. Drishyam 4 possible?

Drishyam 3 follows Georgekutty as he tries to end the suffering around Varun's death. But Geetha's final response suggests the family's nightmare may not be over.

Even before Drishyam 3 hit theatres, director Jeethu Joseph maintained that the third part would mark the end of Georgekutty's journey. Mohanlal later, however, hinted that this might not be the end that the audience is expecting. But what does the film really say? Is there more to the Drishyam world than what has already been shown? Does Georgekutty's story end with part III of this franchise?

You could be in for many surprises, but first, a spoiler warning!

With its two-hour-39-minute runtime, Drishyam 3 explores Georgekutty's suffering in great depth. The accidental killing of a harasser by his daughter, and the elaborate cover-up that outwitted the police not once but twice, has consumed him completely (shown in two parts already). Georgekutty now seemingly has everything in life: a loving family, a successful theatre business and a production debut with a Rs 100-crore grosser. But if there is one thing he desperately craves, it is peace.

Spoiler ahead only for those who haven't watched the previous two parts.

Even though the killing happened in self-defence, a murder is still a murder. And a cover-up remains a crime. After all, how long can one man continue escaping the consequences of a night that has haunted his family for years? But if there is one thing the Drishyam franchise has taught audiences, it is this: never underestimate Georgekutty, a man who is always one step ahead of the police and the law.

By the end of Drishyam 3, the film appears to close the chapter on Mohanlal's iconic character. Yet beneath its emotionally heavy conclusion lies something far more interesting: the possibility that the story may not actually be over.

Georgekutty is no longer hiding a crime

Unlike the first two instalments, Drishyam 3 moves away from the franchise's trademark cerebral thrills and focusses instead on Georgekutty's psychological deterioration. This is no longer just a man hiding a crime. This is a man slowly collapsing under the weight of survival and the decisions he took on that ill-fated night.

The film follows Georgekutty after the success of the movie he produced based on his family's traumatic past. While life appears stable on the surface, the ghosts of Varun Prabhakar’s death continue to linger. This time, the threat did not directly emerge from the police investigation or Varun’s mother Geetha Prabhakar’s pursuit for justice. Instead, the case regains public attention through renewed scrutiny from those affected by Georgekutty’s decisions and fresh attempts to reopen conversations around Varun’s death and the family’s possible involvement.

Here's where the real spoilers begin - the new ones!

As the pressure mounts, Georgekutty becomes increasingly desperate to keep his family safe from another carefully orchestrated ploy designed to trap them. And in doing so, the film pushes the character into morally disturbing territory.

One of Drishyam 3’s most shocking moments comes when Georgekutty physically hurts his own daughter in an attempt to protect her from a larger danger. It becomes the ultimate contradiction of his character — a father who once went to unimaginable lengths to protect his family is now hurting them for survival.

He breaks down and apologises before hurting her. But at that moment, he also realises the monster he is slowly becoming — all while trying to protect the people he loves.

That emotional collapse and the realisation that follows become the film’s true climax.

For perhaps the first time in the franchise, Georgekutty appears exhausted by the life he has built. The man who once confidently manipulated systems and outsmarted investigations finally seems aware of the destruction his choices have caused — not just to his family, but also to those around him.

Will there be a Drishyam 4?

Towards the end, Georgekutty offers to confess to Varun’s murder and accept imprisonment. But his confession comes with a non-negotiable condition: his family should never again be harassed or dragged into the nightmare that has consumed their lives for years.

This becomes Georgekutty’s final attempt to end the suffering once and for all.

For perhaps the first time, Georgekutty stops thinking about survival and starts thinking about peace — not for himself, but for his family and even Varun’s grieving parents.

Georgekutty is finally ready to acknowledge the crime, the pain and the emotional destruction caused by that one night. He agrees to serve punishment, but on his own terms: five years in prison and a promise that the case will never be reopened again.

And just when it seems like the franchise is finally coming to an end, Drishyam 3 delivers one final twist.

The camera now shifts to Varun Prabhakar’s parents. When Prabhakar asks Geetha whether she is finally satisfied after everything that has happened, her response quietly reveals that the conflict is far from over. Geetha admits she still wants Georgekutty’s daughter Anju to suffer for her son's death.

Safe to read from here if you are avoiding spoilers - because that one moment changes everything.

Until then, Drishyam 3 functions like the conclusion to Georgekutty’s journey, a tired man finally surrendering after years of fear, manipulation and paranoia. But Geetha's simmering anger reopens the emotional wound that has defined the franchise from the beginning.

And that is precisely why the ending feels less like closure and more like a setup.

The climax strongly hints that the danger surrounding Georgekutty's family is not over yet. Even if Georgekutty accepts punishment, the hatred, trauma and need for revenge continue to exist. More importantly, Anju, the person Georgekutty tried hardest to protect, still remains emotionally vulnerable.

That leaves enough room for Drishyam 4 to happen.

Not necessarily as another cat-and-mouse thriller involving police investigations and hidden evidence, but as a far more personal conflict driven by emotional revenge and the psychological scars left behind by Varun’s death.

And for Drishyam fans, that final twist is reason enough to celebrate.
