Kamal Haasan has resumed shooting for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, and his choice of travel to the film’s set is drawing attention. The actor recently flew economy class instead of taking a chartered flight – a move that comes days after his public call for the industry to cut avoidable production costs.

The development was shared by the film’s producers, Vyjayanthi Movies, who posted a candid photo of Haasan seated on a commercial flight. In their note, the banner highlighted that he chose to skip private charters and luxury travel to head straight to the shoot, calling the gesture significant at a time when the film industry is navigating financial pressures.

"Mr. @ikamalhaasan choosing to let go of private charters and luxury travel to take an economy flight and head straight to the shoot sets, at a time when the industry is navigating tough realities. This says everything about the legend he is. A first step towards greater things to happen in cinema (sic)," read the caption.

The actor’s travel choice aligns with his recent open letter urging the Indian film industry to reassess spending. In the note, Haasan pointed to areas such as inflated entourage culture, unnecessary foreign travel, production delays and poor planning as key contributors to rising costs. He emphasised that financial corrections should not come at the expense of workers on set.

Vyjayanthi Movies had earlier supported his remarks, describing them as timely and important for safeguarding the future of cinema.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD featured Haasan in a negative role alongside Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. The film emerged as one of the highest-grossing Telugu releases.

Work on the sequel is currently underway. Earlier this year, Bachchan shared that he would be reuniting with Haasan after decades, their last collaboration being Giraftar.

Apart from Kalki 2, Haasan has a busy slate ahead. He is set to collaborate with Rajinikanth on a film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, while also backing multiple projects as a producer, including films featuring Sivakarthikeyan.
