Ram Charan: Peddi with Janhvi Kapoor honours Chiranjeevi-Sridevi legacy
Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor highlighted the emotional significance of their pairing in Peddi. Their collaboration evokes the cherished cinematic legacy of their parents, Chiranjeevi and Sridevi.

At the trailer launch of Peddi in Mumbai, Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor spoke about the emotional weight behind their on-screen pairing - one that, they said, carries echoes of a much-loved cinematic legacy. Charan called the pairing "nostalgic", bringing back memories of the on-screen legacy of his father, Chiranjeevi, and Janhvi's mother, the late actor Sridevi.
The film marks the first collaboration between Ram Charan and Janhvi, but their pairing has already drawn attention for its connection to their parents, who shared a popular on-screen chemistry in several Telugu films.
Speaking at the event, Ram Charan noted that Chiranjeevi and Sridevi had appeared together in films such as Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990) and Rani Kasula Rangamma, which remain memorable for audiences.
“My dad and Sridevi ma’am worked together. It was a long-standing wish for our family, our fans, and those who appreciated our parents that we do a film together,” he said. Calling it a nostalgic experience, he added, “It’s a nostalgic feeling for all of us, and this pair will not disappoint you. She (Janhvi Kapoor) has done her best.”
Janhvi Kapoor also acknowledged the emotional connect audiences may feel. She said that despite living in Mumbai, the Telugu-speaking states continue to feel like home, and that working with Ram Charan carried a sense of familiarity rooted in that legacy.
“I understand there’s a different kind of attachment to us. It felt cosmic to come together for a very special film with him and to get to know him, because he really is the best person,” she said.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi also features Divyenndu Sharma, Shiva Rajkumar and Jagapathi Babu in key roles. Set against a rural backdrop, the sports drama is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 4.
