Is farm loan waiver becoming competitive populism?

Soon after Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan waived loans of farmers, BJP ruled states have followe suit.

Vijay Rupani government in Gujarat on Tuesday said that it will write off electricity bills of more than Rs 600 crore. The move will benefit farmers as well as commercial and household users.

Assam, on the other hand announced a Rs 600-crore farm loan waiver to benefit around eight lakh farmers.

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony.
