The Pentagon on Friday released its second batch of declassified UFO files, including audio recordings of the Apollo 12 crew describing mysterious “streaks of light” they saw while trying to sleep in deep space during the 1969 mission.

The audio, taken from a post-mission medical debrief, featured astronauts Pete Conrad, Richard Gordon and Alan Bean recounting the unusual flashes they experienced despite having their eyes closed.

“The astronauts each reported that these experiences occurred in the dark as they tried to sleep,” a description on the Defence Department’s dedicated UFO website said.

NASA’s medical team later concluded that the phenomenon reported by the Apollo 12 astronauts originated from the astronauts’ own vision rather than from external light sources.

The Pentagon released 222 files as part of the second batch of declassified documents published on the Department of War’s website, weeks after President Donald Trump ordered the release of government reports related to unidentified flying objects.

Among the newly released material was a 116-page file linked to alleged sightings and investigations at a top-secret facility in Sandia, New Mexico, between 1948 and 1950.

According to the Defence Department, the file documented 209 sightings of “green orbs”, “discs”, and “fireballs” reported near the military base.

The first batch of declassified files, released on May 8, included footage of a mysterious “eight-pointed star” streaking across the sky. It also contained reports from the Apollo 17 lunar crew describing unidentified bright sparks in space that resembled “Fourth of July” fireworks.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the newly released documents, photos and videos involving what officials describe as “unidentified anomalous phenomena” had fuelled speculation for years.

“It’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said.

The Department of War said it was currently preparing a third release of declassified UFO-related files that would be made public in the near future.
