
PBKS all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai's mother dies, Afghanistan teammates confirm

Azmatullah Omarzai, the Punjab Kings all-rounder, has suffered a personal loss following the passing of his mother. The news was confirmed by his Afghanistan teammates Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat through social media posts, as they expressed their condolences and support for Omarzai and his family.
The 26-year-old is currently with Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, although he has not featured in a match so far this season. Messages of support have since poured in from the cricketing fraternity as Omarzai and his family navigate this difficult period.
Karim Janat wrote, “We are saddened by the death of the mother of national player Azmatullah Omarzai. May Allah Almighty grant the deceased Paradise and give patience to the family. We share with them in these moments of great grief.”
Nabi wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear that the respected mother of Nawab Khan Umarzai and our national team player Azmatullah Omarzai has passed away. May Allah Almighty grant her soul the highest place in Jannah and bless the entire family with patience and strength.”
WILL OMARZAI BE AVAILABLE FOR RAJASTHAN CLASH?
Punjab Kings are scheduled to play their next match on Tuesday, April 28, against the Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The franchise is yet to release an official statement, and there is no confirmation on whether Omarzai will be available for the match.
Omarzai has emerged as a developing all-round option for PBKS, showing glimpses of his potential with both bat and ball. Across his IPL career so far, he has played 16 matches, scoring 99 runs at an average of 12.37 and picking up 12 wickets at an economy rate of 9.68.
After featuring in seven matches for Gujarat Titans in his debut IPL season in 2024, Omarzai moved to Punjab Kings for Rs 2.40 crore. In IPL 2025, he played nine matches and took eight wickets, following which PBKS retained him for the ongoing edition.
Punjab Kings have been in dominant form this season, sitting at the top of the table with six wins from seven matches, while their game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens was called off due to rain.
