MI vs RR: No Bumrah vs Sooryavanshi 2.0 as Mumbai rest star pacer for final game
Mumbai Indians rested Jasprit Bumrah for their final IPL 2026 league game against Rajasthan Royals. The call denied Wankhede a renewed duel with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as RR chase a win to qualify for the playoffs.
Fans who came in to see Jasprit Bumrah battle it out with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at the Wankhede stadium was left disappointed as Mumbai decided to rest the star pacer for the final IPL 2026 game. Bumrah, who hasn't enjoyed the best of IPL campaigns, had played 13 games and got four wickets. This was his worst output since his first three seasons for MI.
When Sooryavanshi and Bumrah came face to face earlier on in the season during the rain-affected clash in Guwahati, the RR opener hit the star pacer for a first-ball six, and then followed it up with another one in the same over. Bumrah went wicketless in the game and conceded 32 runs as Rajasthan won the match by 27 runs.
"Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) is resting. Deepak (Chahar) is playing," said Hardik Pandya at the toss.
MI also got Rohit Sharma as their impact sub as they opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Rajasthan had brought back Nandre Burger, Ravindra Jadeja and Riyan Parag for the must-win game.
Jadeja missed the last two games due to a niggle and comes back in to add more fire to the bowling unit. RR need to win the match to get into the playoffs. A loss would mean they will get eliminated from the competition.
