Mitchell Starc cleared to play IPL: DC pacer expected to be available for RR clash
IPL 2026: Mitchell Starc has been cleared to return to IPL 2026 after recovering from injury. The Delhi Capitals pacer is set to rejoin the squad and could feature in their upcoming clash against Rajasthan Royals.
Australia and Delhi Capitals pacer Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Cricket Australia to return to IPL 2026, with the left-arm quick expected to be available for DC’s upcoming clash against Rajasthan Royals.
The news comes as a timely boost for Delhi Capitals, who have had a mixed start to the season with three wins from six matches. Placed in the middle of the table, DC will hope Starc’s return brings much-needed balance and experience to their bowling attack.
"Starc is expected to build up his workloads on the ground in India and is on track to make his debut for the 2026 season in Delhi's May 1 match against Rajasthan Royals," Cricket.com.au reported.
Starc had missed the initial phase of the tournament due to elbow and shoulder niggles, which he had picked up during the Australian summer. The absence led to questions over overseas player availability, prompting the left-arm quick to address the criticism.
“Despite the opinions and views of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I’m currently rehabbing and managing an injury in my shoulder and elbow,” Starc had said.
“These individuals have made some strong statements around involvement in the IPL and provided heavily misinformed opinions of players, preached them as facts, and claim to know my body better than me,” he added.
The 36-year-old was last seen in action during the Big Bash League after a demanding Ashes campaign, where he played all five Tests and was named Player of the Series. Since then, his focus has been on recovery and building fitness ahead of a return.
Starc was Delhi’s leading pace bowler last season, picking up 14 wickets in 11 matches. His ability to strike early and control phases of the innings will be crucial as DC look to build momentum in the second half of IPL 2026.
WHEN WILL STARC PLAY IN IPL 2026?
Starc is expected to make his IPL 2026 debut in Delhi Capitals’ match against Rajasthan Royals on May 1.
According to reports, he will first work on increasing his workload in India before returning to match action. The team management is likely to take a cautious approach with his comeback given his recent injury concerns.
Meanwhile, other Australian players are also returning to the IPL, with Pat Cummins set to feature for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Josh Hazlewood already back for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
For Delhi Capitals, Starc’s return could be a defining moment in their campaign as they push for a playoff spot.
