SRH lean on home edge, DC build on RCB win as Hyderabad braces for another run-fest
IPL 2026: Hyderabad braces for another run-fest as Sunrisers Hyderabad look to turn home advantage into points against Delhi Capitals in a mid-table IPL clash on Tuesday. With little separating the two sides on the table, it is their contrasting top-order approaches that stand out this season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to make home advantage count when they take on an inconsistent Delhi Capitals in a mid-table Indian Premier League clash on Tuesday. It is a meeting of contrasting batting philosophies, with SRH preferring to attack from the outset, while DC tend to pace their innings and adapt to the situation.
So far, both approaches have brought similar returns. Sunrisers Hyderabad have three wins and three defeats from six matches, while Delhi have three wins in five. Both sides arrive on the back of victories, with an opportunity to build momentum rather than chase it.
TALE OF TWO TOP ORDERS
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top three have been the most explosive unit in IPL 2026, scoring at a run rate of 11.65. Delhi Capitals, by contrast, sit ninth on that chart at 9.28, a gap that reflects not just intent but impact.
Neither approach is inherently superior. Conditions, targets and bowling quality often dictate tempo as much as philosophy does. Yet, with Hyderabad likely to offer a high-scoring surface, Capitals may need to move closer to SRH’s blueprint, at least for one night, by winning a few decisive battles at the top.
The first is six-hitting. DC’s top three have managed just 12 sixes across five games, the lowest among all sides. SRH have hammered 34, nearly three times as many, consistently seizing control in the powerplay and beyond.
The second concern lies at No. 3. While DC have stabilised their opening combination after cycling through seven pairs last season, the one-down position remains unsettled. Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi and Karun Nair have collectively returned modest scores of 15, 0, 5, 6 and 5, all at strike rates below 100. Too often, that has meant two quick wickets and a stalled innings just as momentum begins to build.
SRH, in contrast, have struck a more coherent balance. Despite Travis Head not quite hitting top gear, the brisk starts from Abhishek Sharma and the composure of Ishan Kishan at No. 3 have ensured continuity. That platform has allowed a smooth handover to a destructive middle order, where Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy can dictate terms.
SRH RELY ON HOME RHYTHM
Fourth-placed SRH hold a slight edge on net run rate, though they have played a game more. Their campaign has been about finding balance, particularly in the absence of skipper Pat Cummins, who has rejoined the squad but remains unavailable for this match.
In his absence, a relatively untested bowling unit has stepped up impressively. Praful Hinge, Sakib Husain and Shivang Kumar have added energy and control, complementing the senior core. Hinge's standout effort against Rajasthan Royals was followed by a disciplined collective display against Chennai Super Kings, where Eshan Malinga led a clinical finish at the death.
That improvement with the ball has underpinned SRH's back-to-back wins at home.
The batting, however, continues to flatter and frustrate in equal measure. The aggressive template has not always delivered. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and stand-in captain Ishan Kishan have yet to click consistently as a unit.
As a result, Heinrich Klaasen has often been left to repair the innings. Walking in early, he has had to rebuild before accelerating, which has curbed his natural fluency despite his continued impact.
DC SEEK CONSISTENCY AFTER RCB WIN
Delhi Capitals have struggled for consistency, but their narrow win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru could prove significant.
Chasing 176 in Bengaluru, DC nearly let the game slip before David Miller kept his composure in the final over. It was a timely result after two straight defeats and a reminder of the finishing ability in their ranks.
The Capitals' batting has shown promise. KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka and Tristan Stubbs have all contributed, but the team will want more decisive knocks, especially on good batting surfaces.
There is also a boost with captain Axar Patel declared fit after retiring hurt against RCB. His all-round presence adds both stability and control.
With the ball, Delhi rely on variety. In the absence of Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi has led the attack well, combining discipline with wicket-taking threat. Axar has been economical through the middle overs, while Kuldeep Yadav is still searching for peak rhythm. Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan have shown promise in patches.
HYDERABAD: PITCH AND CONDITIONS
The Hyderabad pitch looks set to favour the batters, with true bounce and good carry allowing strokeplay to flow. SRH have already made the most of these conditions and will be aiming for another big total. Dew is expected later in the evening, which could make things difficult for the bowlers and give chasing sides a clear edge. The captain winning the toss is likely to bowl first.
That said, SRH have shown they can still defend on this surface, having done so in their games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium this season, winning two of them. While it has largely been a good batting track, the seamers can get some swing early on before the pitch settles.
HYDERABAD: WEATHER PREDICTION
More cloud than sun is expected in Hyderabad on April 21, with a thundershower possible in parts during the afternoon. By the time of the SRH vs DC clash, conditions should settle, although it will remain hot and testing, with temperatures in the high 30s easing slightly into the evening. Any earlier rain is unlikely to disrupt play, setting the stage for a full game.
While there could be some cloud cover during the match, rain is not expected to interfere. The lingering heat and humidity could then bring dew into play later on, once again tilting the balance in favour of the chasing side.
SRH vs DC: HEAD-TO-HEAD
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals have faced each other 26 times in the IPL, with SRH edging the rivalry with 13 wins to DC's 12. It's a closely fought contest, with Sunrisers holding a narrow advantage in the head-to-head record.
SRH vs DC: PREDICTED XI
In SRH's last game against Chennai Super Kings, Kishan had indicated at the toss that Dilshan Madushanka would be part of the playing XII, but he was not fielded, with the team opting to bring in Liam Livingstone during the innings. The final overseas spot remains a toss-up between the two.
Pat Cummins remains unavailable, with his return tentatively planned for the April 25 game against Rajasthan Royals. Gerald Coetzee has replaced the injured David Payne in the squad, but there is no clarity on his availability for Tuesday's match.
SRH Predicted XI: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (capt), Aniket Verma, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora (wk), Dilshan Madushanka, Shivang Kumar, Eshan Malinga, Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain
Impact Sub: Liam Livingstone
Axar retired hurt with muscle cramps during DC's last outing, but head coach Hemang Badani confirmed on the eve of the match that he is fit to start. There is no clear frontrunner for the No. 3 spot, and the final batting position may be a choice between Karun Nair and Ashutosh Sharma.
DC also have Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana and Abishek Porel as options. At least two could open, which may push Nissanka to the bench and open up a slot for Kyle Jamieson or Dushmantha Chameera. Mitchell Starc remains unavailable.
Delhi Capitals Predicted XI: Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul, Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Auqib Nabi, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, T Natarajan
Impact Sub: Ashutosh Sharma
