Mumbai Indians will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after Jasprit Bumrah returned to something close to his very best. On Monday, April 20, in their IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans, Bumrah led the charge as MI hammered the Titans by a massive 99 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Bumrah had endured a difficult start to the season, going wicketless in his first five matches. With their spearhead struggling for rhythm, MI had slipped to four consecutive defeats. But against GT, Bumrah finally found his groove, finishing with impressive figures of 3-0-15-1. Hardik Pandya’s decision to throw him the new ball after setting a 200-run target proved to be a masterstroke.

It was only the seventh time Bumrah opened the bowling in the IPL, and the move paid rich dividends. Setting the tone early, he put the Titans under immediate pressure, allowing MI to seize control of the contest. Riding on Bumrah’s incisive spell, Mumbai not only snapped their losing streak but also registered their first-ever win against Gujarat in Ahmedabad after four previous defeats.
HOW JASPRIT BUMRAH ROCKED GT
Bumrah delivered a sharp, impactful spell against GT, setting the tone right from the outset after Tilak Varma’s 45-ball century. With his very first ball of the innings, he struck gold, dismissing Sai Sudharsan with a teasing delivery that moved away just enough to induce a mistimed shot.
From there, Bumrah looked in complete control, mixing his lengths cleverly and troubling both Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler with movement off the pitch.
While Gill managed a couple of crisp boundaries, Bumrah consistently hit the right areas, forcing errors and keeping the batters under pressure. His variations stood out in his second spell, where he used slower balls and sharp short deliveries effectively.
Bumrah will be looking to continue his form when they next lock horns with the Chennai Super Kings on Thursday, April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
