Rahul hit 11 boundaries during his knock. The hundred comes on the back of his brilliant run of form in 2025, scoring 813 runs from 10 matches and cementing himself at the top of the order for India. This was Rahul's first game as the new vice-captain of the side and the start wasn't the best.

Afghanistan kept bowling good lengths, especially targeting Rahul on the off-side, trying to make him play on the front. Rahul took time to get going and hit a boundary to get off the mark. However, the strokeplay lacked rhythm and he got a lucky reprieve in the 11th over.

While facing Ziaur Rahman Sharifi, Rahul went for a cut shot and the ball went straight to the wicketkeeper. As Afghanistan players celebrated, Rahul stood his ground as the umpire also suggested that there was no edge.

Hasmatullah Shahidi decided not to go for the review, and UltraEdge showed that there was a nick on the ball. From that point, Rahul started to find his mojo and cut free to let the runs flow.

Rahul got to his fifty right after lunch as he started off with a couple of boundaries. He allowed his partner Sai Sudharsan to take charge and opted to be more careful and decisive with his shot-making.

Rahul hit just one boundary between the 33rd and 48th overs, focusing more on rotating the strike and allowing captain Shubman Gill also to take charge. The Indian vice-captain got another boundary in to move to 97. A single and a double later, Rahul got to his hundred.

But disaster struck soon after as he went for an expansive shot and got caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
